Beijing, October 30, 2009, King & Wood successfully held the first arbitration Moot training session for applicants to Beijing Lawyers’ Association.
The arbitration Moot was jointly organized by the Beijing Lawyers’ Association, the Beijing Arbitration Commission and China University of Politics and Law. Almost 200 trainee lawyers applying to the Beijing Lawyers’ Association participated in the session.
Partners Ariel Ye, Liu Yuwu and 6 associates with King & Wood’s Cross-border Dispute Resolution Practice provided guidance to the trainee lawyers in legal research, document drafting, advocacy, and professional ethics.
During the arbitration Moot, King & Wood Partners, together with external experts, constituted the arbitral tribunal and heard the case presented by the trainee lawyers on behalf of the parties. The hearing included discussions, opening statements, cross-examination, debate and closing statements, providing the trainee lawyers with an insight into arbitration and hearings conducted by the Beijing Arbitration Commission.
In the future, Beijing Lawyer’s Association will organize similar training sessions for trainee lawyers in cooperation with law firms with experience in the field of arbitration.
