Areas of Practice
Mr. Andrew Tan focuses on, and has substantial experience in, counseling MNCs and private equity funds with their investments in China, whether this means establishing a new business or acquiring existing assets, across a variety of industries. Other than sponsors, he has counseled lenders and contractors of PRC limited-recourse financed infrastructure projects. Mr. Tan also has experience advising lenders' steering committees on debt restructuring/liquidation and investors in Chinese NPLs and PRC infrastructure assets sold by liquidators.
Besides having assisted clients with their investments in manufacturing (e.g. automotive and related components; petrochemical), and distribution and property development projects in China, he has substantial experience in infrastructure (coal/gas-fired power plants, water, toll roads and bridges), and renewable projects (wind, hydro, waste to energy, among others) Mr. Tan also has experience in assisting foreign investors with their regulatory compliance issues (including employment, tax, importation, environmental, health and safety issues) arising from the operation of their businesses in China.
Work Experience
Mr. Tan has been in practice since 1989, starting in the banking and finance department of a major law firm in Singapore. Besides being a private practitioner, Mr. Tan has also been an in-house lawyer of a global oil & gas company. Mr. Tan was a partner in the China Practice Group at one of the largest international law firms in the world.
He is the co-chair for the Energy/Emission Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and the Honorary Legal Counsel to the Hong Kong Association of Environmental Services Companies.
Mr. Tan received his LL.B. from the National University of Singapore. He is qualified to practice as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England and as an advocate & solicitor in Singapore. He is proficient in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hokkien.
