Areas of Practice
Mr. James Rowland is an advisor in King & Wood's international litigation and arbitration practice specializing in international commercial arbitration, cross-border litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
Mr. Rowland has appeared as counsel in arbitrations before the Institute of Arbitration of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. He has extensive experience in cross-border trial preparation, pre-trial and interlocutory proceedings including experience in cases pending before the Supreme Court of Victoria in Australia, the Tribunale di Milano in Italy, the High Court in the British Virgin Islands, the Mumbai High Court in India, the Hong Kong High Court, the Superior Court of California, the Court of Queens Bench in Saskatchewan in Canada and the Supreme Court of Samoa.
In addition, Mr. Rowland has experience with the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards, foreign court orders and judgments in China.
Mr. Rowland also advises on settlement negotiation, early dispute resolution and legal compliance and has worked for clients in the infrastructure, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, beverages and horticulture industries.
Work Experience
Mr. Rowland joined King & Wood in 2007. Prior to joining King & Wood, Mr. Rowland worked as an in-house litigation counsel for a multinational company in Italy and in the cross-border litigation practice of an international law firm based in Australia.
Mr. Rowland has an LLB from Monash University and has a BA (Hons) in international relations from the University of Melbourne. He has studied international commercial arbitration and comparative civil procedure at the University of Florence in Italy and is a contributing author to the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution’s deskbook on commercial mediation in Europe.
He is admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in New South Wales (Australia) and Victoria (Australia). Mr. Rowland maintains a current practicing licence in Victoria.
