Areas of Practice
Mr. John Lo's primary areas of professional focus are emerging companies, venture capital, private equity, M&As, China-bound direct investment and real estate projects, US inbound investment, and international transactions in general.
He has considerable experience in matters involving intellectual property, tax, and corporate finance, and specific industry experience in the technology, real property, life sciences, and renewable energies areas. He was one of the pioneers in representing PRC conglomerates in the United States beginning in the late 1980s.
Work Experience
Mr. Lo began his legal career in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area from early 1980s until 1994, when he relocated to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong he practiced at several of the largest global and regional law firms headquartered in the United States and Hong Kong for over 12 years.
In addition, he was a member on the Panel of Assessors for the Small Entrepreneur Research Assistance Program (SERAP), under the Innovation and Technology Commission for seven years, a Lawyer on the panel for the Incutech Business Incubation Programme sponsored by the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, and a lecturer and developer of SPACE (University of Hong Kong's School of Professional and Continuing Education) course entitled "Legal and Financing Aspects of High-Tech Start-ups in Hong Kong.” He is also a former director of the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association, and former director of the California Association of Hong Kong and China.
Mr. Lo received his B.A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Sociology, an M.S. in Sociology from University of Wisconson-Madison, his M.B.A. and J.D. from University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. in Taxation from Golden Gate University, and a diploma in Practices in Chinese Laws & Regulations Affecting Foreign Business from the Southwest University of Political Science & Law, China. Mr. John Lo is proficient in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghai dialect.
